So...if anybody was looking for a place to talk about comics, feel free to use this already established community: http://comics-reviews-etc.dreamwidth.org/

It was originally created to be a comics review comm - and still can be - but feel free to use it for any-and-all comics-related things, including questions.

09:09 am - Yo, Con.Txt Attendees!
I mentioned a week or so ago that I was going to be running the charity raffle at con.txt this year (this WEEK, omg!)

Anyway!

I've had a number of people write and commit to donating cool new/nearly new fannish things (books/dvds/art/action figures/art/etc)for the raffle, but we could absolutely use more.

If you - or one of your friends - is going to con.txt, and you have something you think might be a fun raffle prize, please contact me at bethbethbeth [at] gmail [dot] com so we can make arrangements/

Feel free to pass this info on (I was going to say "reblog"...clearly I'm spending too much time on tumblr), and if you want some info about the charities, you can visit the con.txt community post here: http://con-txt.dreamwidth.org/27759.html

***

BTW...I'm co-modding two panels: one on the Avengers and one on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and I'd love to see you guys there.

03:24 pm - Con.Txt Charity Raffle!
Whether you're going to con.txt (and I think there's still a few days to register!) or not, you can contribute new/nearly new cool fannish items for the charity auction that I'll be running (once again, out of my backpack)

Leave a comment here, on the con.txt post, or email me at bethbethbeth [at] gmail if you think something you have (DVDs, signed someting-or-other, fannish toys/art/books/t-shirts/whatever still in mint condition, etc) might fit the bill!

Even including the two Clint Barton/Phil Coulson stories I wrote for a December Fest ("Somewhere in the World (A Meadow Filled With Flowers) " and "Secrets Shared"), I still wrote fewer than 20,000 words all year.

Okay...a slightly belated resolution: 2,000 words a week minimum for 2014.

My second Feelstide story has posted!

Title: "Somewhere in the World (A Meadow Filled With Flowers)"
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/1101827
Pairing: Phil Coulson/Clint Barton

(crossover, of sorts, with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., minor spoiler for ep 1.07 "The Hub")

Summary: It had been a long time since Phil Coulson didn't really die, and in all that time, Clint Barton hadn't contacted him. Phil hadn't contacted Barton either, but he told himself that was a different matter entirely.

From the prompt: New Year's Resolutions

I'm such a lucky yuletide recipient this year because I've been gifted with four stories! Links to all but the still-not-revealed Madness story below:

***

Fandom: Hawkeye (Comics)
Title: Of Hawkeyes and Bartons
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/1096490

Summary: When Kate returns to Clint's Bed-Stuy apartment, she's surprised to find a different Barton brother there than she's used to.

***

Fandom: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Title: there's no i in team (but there is in S.H.I.E.L.D.)
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/1100332

Skye, Ward, and May are trapped in a transport freezer, and...it pays to be underestimated. :)

Fandom: Galaxy Quest

11:07 am - FIC: Avengers - Secrets Shared (Phil/Clint)
Feelstide Story #1 posted!

Fandom: Avengers (generally canon compliant with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Pairing: Clint Barton/Phil Coulson
Word Count: @4,000

Link: http://archiveofourown.org/collections/Feelstide2013/works/1068872

Summary: Loosely based on Feelstide 2013 prompt #111: "The Cellist in Portland is actually Phil's daughter. Phil takes Clint to meet her." (Regarding the prompt: Somehow Coulson's daughter has ended up taking a back seat to Coulson's mom, Clint has taken himself to Portland, and Christmas barely gets a mention. However, this story is fluffy enough to count as a holiday fic!)

02:41 pm - Yuletide Letter
First things first...my "shameless hinting" post, which covers almost all the things you could possibly need to know about my fic tastes can be found here - and if you need even more info about my likes in various fandoms, you could check out my multi-fandom recs site (here on Dreamwidth)

Apart from that, I said just about everything I needed to say in my sign-ups. I'll repeat the requests at the end of this entry, but generally speaking, as long as you write what interests you about my favorite characters and you don't, you know...kill them off or anything, I'll be thrilled.

If you're worried about writing erotica, let me assure you that I absolutely don't need any sex in the story you write (although if that's your favorite thing to write, go for it!). I also don't need a big plotty epic. I mean, I love big plotty epics, but a small character study or a bantery vignette would be equally welcome if that's what you'd rather write.

Honestly...I know everybody says "write what you like about these characters and I'll be happy," but I really mean it! :)

Carny - Donna/Frankie/Patch

Any combination of two or more of the three main characters is fine, including a threesome. This doesn't necessarily mean slash or het however. I'd be perfectly happy with something friendship-based that takes the characters' relationships beyond the scope of the movie, maybe something plotty focusing on interactions with non-Carny folk? Or possibly a backstory fic, particularly one that focuses on Frankie and Patch? Or something Carny-ishly domestic, set many years post-movie? As with all my requests, a happy or hopeful ending is preferred.

Threepenny Opera - Brecht/Weill (Macheath and Jackie "Tiger" Brown)

Either gen or slash is fine for this pairing - as you choose. For Macheath and Tiger Brown, I'd rather not have the setting be during the events of canon. Before canon (especially during their army days) would be fine, but if you're so inclined, I'd love to see something set directly after canon ends - something that deals with Macheath and Brown getting their relationship back on track after Brown's betrayal. Include whatever canon characters you want, even Polly, but I'd like to see the emphasis on Macheath and Brown's relationship.

Hawkeye (Comics) - Kate/Lucky/Barney

Gen, by preference, this time around. Kate & Lucky end up spending time with Barney for some reason (either in NY or out west) either on a case or in a purely relationship driven story - the development of an uneasy friendship, maybe? Bonus points for including Clint (although obviously not necessarily), but if you do include him, if you could have Clint not be the cause of his own unhappiness somehow, that would be great.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (tv) - Melinda/Skye/Grant

what I'd really love for this yuletide is a story in which the characters are trapped/held captive in some bizarre, Marvel-related way and have to work together to extricate themselves. In the process, the three should share secrets/learn to trust each other. Feel free to include FitzSimmons and/or Phil coulson (especially Phil coulson!), but keeping the focus on the original three is fine too.

Galaxy Quest Gwen, Alexander, Jason.

Something post-Film, with Gwen, Alexander, and Jason shooting an episode and then finding themselves transported somewhere that is almost identical to the society in the ep. Very much an "oh god, this again?" situation. Funny or dramatic, as you choose (Gen preferred, but subtext is fine)

Okay, this is really cool:

Besides Iron Man 3, Federico D'Alessandro, has uploaded animatics he created for Joss Whedon's mega-hit, The Avengers. Two of them feature unused intros for Iron Man, while another has a different version of Loki and Tony Stark's battle of wits.

Basically we're talking about storyboarding, but not the static kind of storyboards I knew from my childhood. These are quasi-animated, with action and dialogue taken from...maybe the first draft of the script?

The third and fourth clips are pretty close to what we saw in the movie The Avengers, but just different enough to be really cool (the dialogue between Loki and Tony - and JARVIS? - is great), and clips one and two are extremely different. Plus, the character the Wasp (before she was cut from the movie) makes a brief appearance in clip 4.

Check them out!

10:50 am - My Weekend, by Beth...53 years and 364 days.
1. Saw a revival of Horton Foote's play the Trip to Bountiful (first starring Lillian Gish and Eva Marie Saint in the television play, and then Geraldine Page in the 1985 movie), and I loved it. The current cast - Cicely Tyson, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Vanessa Williams and Condola Rashad - were fantastic (especially Cicely Tyson!) and there was an interesting interactivity (i.e., a high proportion of the audience singing along with a hymn) that I hadn't been expecting, but which...wasn't precisely a surprise?

2. Then (after a quick stop at St Marks Comics, because...comics!), I met L and S for dinner, which was excellent! (although I think I disappeared a little fast after dinner, for which I'm blaming the fact that I didn't want the leftovers to go bad *g*)

3. Most of the rest of the weekend was waiting to hear t.v. related news, first on Sunday, the naming of the new Doctor. Unsurprisingly white and male, but he's actually older than me, which pleases me more than it should. My amusing observation of the afternoon was looking up Peter Capaldi (the 12th Doctor) on imdb (I only knew him from a few shows) and seeing his role in the recent World War Z: "W.H.O. Doctor" I laughed and laughed.

4. And then there was the TV Critics Association press screening of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. followed by a cast/producers/execs press conference. I still haven't seen the pilot (and remain as unspoiled as anyone can be who clicks on every available link), but I'm very excited for the premiere on September 24th at 8:00/7:00 central on ABC

The new poster:

I've spent the past few days following the TX legislature's war on women and NC's hideous actions and the Zimmerman trial and things got worse and worse, but as the jury deliberated, I thought, okay, he's not going to get second degree murder verdict, but surely they'll return a manslaughter verdict.

I am so fucking naive.
